Book Fragment 01

From: Book by R A Brookfield

The house was quiet and dark, the smoky haze of the sage I had burned still lingering in the air. As I slipped into bed, the dogs scuffled about on the floor, finding their places.

I closed my eyes. Darkness arrived, and slowly I was taken by the arms of silence.

I stood in a parking garage, clean and without the usual black soot covering the concrete. A man sat by a set of stairs far off in the distance. I can't really remember what he looked like. There's just a void in my memory where the figure should be.

As I walked toward the stairs and the figure, a large yellow wand appeared in my hand. I do not know why, but I started swinging it around. As I swung, the walls and world around me seemed to morph.

The entire garage turned into a set of non-Euclidean like staircases, and the shadow of the man seemed to merge into the walls as they shifted.

When I awoke, though, my room had changed. Reality had shifted in subtle ways. Instead of my crystal ball, there was a TV, and other differences I can't quite recall. I realized I was still in this world of dream.
